**COURSE WILL PAUSE TWO-WEEKS FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S. STUDIO CLOSED FROM DECEMBER 23, 2025, THROUGH JANUARY 3, 2026. COURSE WILL RESUME ON JANUARY 9, 2026 FOR THE FINAL GLAZING SESSION.** Discover your love for clay in our 5-week beginner hand-building course for adults 15+. Perfect for those who enjoy working at a slower, more intentional pace, this course offers a thoughtful and creative alternative to wheel throwing. Guided by our instructor, Vanessa, you’ll explore slab hand-building techniques to create mugs, bowls, and vases, as well as learn the coil method and other skills to add character to your work. Some sessions include free building time, giving you the opportunity to bring your own ideas to life. From rolling and cutting slabs to assembling, adding details, and glazing, you’ll gain a strong foundation for future projects. In our peaceful, nature-themed studio, you’ll find inspiration all around you as you shape your pieces. We provide plenty of clay so you can experiment freely and refine your skills! Preparing for class: - Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty - Closed toe shoes recommended - Trim down nails as having long nails do interfere with the process and can make the process difficult - Bring your own apron - Class fees cover everything from instruction to clay, glaze, firing, and use of studio tools Week 1: Learn slab-building techniques through a guided demo and create your first mug. Week 2: Use slabs to free-build any form of your choice with instructor support. Week 3: Explore coil-building methods in a demo and construct a new piece. Week 4: Free-build a coiled piece, refining your technique and creativity. Week 5: Finish by glazing all your work after a demonstration on glazing techniques. We highly encourage students to attend all scheduled classes, as make-up sessions do not offer the same level of guidance as regular sessions. If you do need to miss a class, we offer make-up sessions during our open studio hours for a $45 fee per session. To reserve a spot, please contact us at hello@clayat.com.
