Service Description
COURSE WILL SKIP/PAUSE THE WEEK OF MOTHER’S DAY MAY 10TH AND WILL RESUME ON MAY 17TH (View dates at the bottom of this page) **To qualify for this course, students MUST have either: completed either a 5-week beginner pottery course, intro to pottery class, or be an active studio member.** Refine your craft with our 4-week intermediate course focused on the technical duo of the integrated planter and the matching water bell. Designed for students 15+ ready to move beyond basic vessels, this session explores the precision required to throw and assemble two distinct but functional components. Throughout the course, you will master the construction of a planter with a permanently attached drainage plate alongside its companion water bell. Our instructor will provide personalized guidance as you navigate the challenges of throwing with larger amounts of clay, structural integrity, moisture management, and ensuring a cohesive look between both forms. The course includes 10-15lbs of clay to support your experimentation. By the end of the sessions, you will create 3-4 pieces to keep. Preparing for class: - Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty - Closed toe shoes recommended - Trim down nails as having long nails do interfere with the process and can make the process difficult - Bring your own apron (Optional) - Class fees cover everything from instruction to clay, glaze, firing, and use of studio tools Week 1: Watch a large planter demonstration, then spend the session throwing your first one. Week 2: Water-bell demo followed by studio time to throw one, plus a bonus planter or second bell. Week 3: Finish your work by trimming all pieces, adding drainage holes, and applying attachments. Week 4: Glaze all pieces. A refresher demo is available for anyone who needs it. We highly encourage students to attend all scheduled classes, as make-up sessions do not offer the same level of guidance as regular sessions. If you do need to miss a class, we offer make-up sessions during our open studio hours for a $50 fee per session. To reserve a spot, please contact us at hello@clayat.com. Pieces will be ready for pick-up 3-4 weeks after the last class session. Secure your spot today, space is limited! Don't delay your creative journey.
